STRENGTHENING PROFESSIONAL CAPACITIES FOR THE EFFECTIVE EXERCISE OF THE RIGHT OF ACCESS TO INFORMATION

The Agency for Protection of the Right to Public Information, in cooperation with the Council of Europe, conducted a professional training dedicated to issues of importance for the consistent and effective exercise of the right of access to public information.

The activity was implemented within the framework of the project “Promoting Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in North Macedonia (PRO-FREX)”, as part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye 2023–2026.”

The training was opened with welcoming remarks by Petar Gajdov, Director of the Agency, and Oleg Soldatov, Head of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Skopje.

The training focused on the practical aspects of applying access to information standards, the exchange of professional experiences, and strengthening institutional capacities for handling requests for access to public information.

The right of access to information is an essential component of transparent and accountable institutional governance. Its effective exercise requires not only an appropriate legal framework, but also the continuous strengthening of the professional knowledge and practical capacities of institutions.

Through professional cooperation, the exchange of experiences and the continuous improvement of practices, the Agency continues to contribute to the consistent application of the right of access to information and to higher standards of institutional transparency and accountability.
